Get Ready For Mother’s Day!
While we think that WINE is an excellent gift for the mom in your life, and that spending Mother’s Day afternoon on our patio is a perfect way to celebrate her, you might want a few additional ideas so you can make an entire day of it. We’ll share some simple recipes here that pair with our wines as a way to say Thanks, Mom!
Quiche
If you don’t feel confident about making an omelet, you can still make a simple egg dish that looks like you have professional training.
Use premade deep dish pie shells for traditional quiche, or for a gluten free version, skip the crust and butter a glass baking dish. Preheat the oven to 375. Whip ⅓ cup of cream or unsweetened coconut milk with 9 eggs until they are pale yellow. Add salt and pepper, and a few dashes of Tabasco and whip another 30 seconds. Pour mixture into a baking dish or pie crust. Gently sprinkle with your favorite combo of roasted veggies, meats, and fresh herbs.
Great Combos:
- Ham, green onion and smoked gouda with mild chili powder
- Mushrooms, peppers and red onions with parmesan, thyme, oregano, and garlic
- Poblanos, smoked salmon and cream cheese with dried coriander and fresh cilantro
- Bacon, tomato and white cheddar with salt, pepper, and garlic
- Roasted red peppers, artichoke hearts and goat cheese with dill and parsley
Bake the quiche the night before until just barely set, 25-35 minutes. Cool, cover and store in the fridge. Allow to sit at room temp for 20 minutes before reheating it whole in the oven. Use a three inch wide band of foil around the crust if it seems to be browning too fast. Top with your favorite cheeses and warm at 225 degrees for 15-25 minutes.
Serve with a fresh fruit salad and one of our imported sparkling wines, like the Avissi Prosecco.
Eggs
If you only have the time and patience for a quick breakfast, choose your favorite from the Great Combos list above and prepare the eggs the same way. Saute the meat and veggies first, add the whipped eggs, and allow to set up a bit in between stirs over medium heat for a firm scramble. If you want your eggs soft like custard, stir constantly over low heat, always add your cheese at the end, and wait until the dish cools a little before you garnish with fresh herbs.
Once everything is finished in the pan, heat up flour tortillas and stuff them with the eggs, and top with salsa and chopped avocados.

Don’t forget the chocolate!
If your Mom is a BIG chocolate lover, make these easy chocolate treats, studded with her favorite toppings.
Lazy Chocolate Pralines
Melt one 12 ounce bag of dark chocolate chips with 4 ounces of unsalted butter, a pinch of sea salt, and a ¼ teaspoon of cinnamon in a glass bowl. Microwave for one minute and stir. Heat again for 30-40 seconds and stir well until the mixture is smooth.
Spoon the chocolate into lined muffin tins with a teaspoon. Top with pecan or walnut pieces, toasted hazelnuts, or slivered almonds, coconut flakes, sliced dried apricots or dates, chopped dried cranberries, or fresh berries. Chill in the fridge until set and store in an airtight container for up to three weeks or freeze for up to three months. Make this a quarterly ritual by doubling the batch and Mom will like you a lot more when you forget to take out the trash or empty the dishwasher.
Nothing goes better with chocolate than our 2022 Portejas Roja!
